The Miller-Rice pile dike system as originally designed and constructed performed its intended function to divert the thalweg from the north side to the south side and maintain it there. The creation of dredge material placement islands and shoals and changes in system and morphology have altered the hydraulic function.

Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Work includes placement of riprap below the water surface in a dynamic river environment where water levels may fluctuate. The extent of in-water placement will depend on the river channel location and water levels at the time of construction. The project is scheduled for winter construction, when water levels are typically at their lowest.
