The Department of the Navy (NAVSEA) issued a Sources Sought / Request for Information to gather market research for replacing the U.S. Naval Academy's 44' MKII sail training craft and to identify vendors capable of supplying commercially available sailboat hulls. The notice specifies technical parameters (approx. 42–46 ft length, 12.75–14 ft beam, max 70 ft air draft, ~50 hp propulsion) and desired features (robust hull, crash bulkhead, wide decks, large cockpit, carbon spar rigging, specific cabin layout) and requests a 10-page PDF response describing company capability, vessel specs, and approximate unit price. Responses are due Feb 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM EST; the notice is informational only (RFI/Sources Sought) and does not constitute a solicitation or commitment to award a contract.

Preparing for the replacement of the U.S. Naval Academy’s (USNA) 44’ MKI| Sail Training Craft (STC), with up to 20 new sailboats. The purpose of this RFl is to seek industries’ detailed descriptions of hull layup and construction for commercially available sailboat models having size, performance and arrangement characteristics capable of matching the USNA's draft requirements noted in this RFI. The hull layup and construction information being sought is that which would allow the Government to assess how commercially available sailboat models compare to the USNA 44’ MKII STC with regard to hull mechanical properties, laminate lay-up and resiliency to the impacts and groundings associated with the rigors of midshipmen training.
