Summary
The Commonwealth of Kentucky, through its Division of Engineering and Contract Administration on behalf of the Energy and Environment Cabinet's Division of Abandoned Mine Lands (EEC-AML), is soliciting bids (RFB-13-27 / EEC-AML-26008AMLMAML) for construction services to explore and remediate abandoned mine land subsidence in Hopkins County. The contractor will conduct exploration drilling to verify the #11 coal seam, assess subsidence-related rock and shale fracturing with a downhole camera, drill and case six-inch holes with PVC, monitor for methane, and flush each hole with approximately 400 gallons of water. Additional work includes excavating and filling a 40ft x 45ft x 5ft subsidence hole on the Willie Thompson property with Class II riprap, sealing another collapse in an adjacent ditch line, and installing wildlife-accessible closures on two potential mine openings on S. Highland Avenue in Earlington, KY.
