Innovations in Open Data and Modeling for a Climate- and Wildfire-resilient Electricity System RFP
The purpose of this solicitation is to fund applied research and development projects that inform California’s transition to an equitable, zero-carbon energy system that is climate resilient and meets environmental goals. This solicitation is supported by the Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) 2021-2025 investment plan, Climate Resiliency Initiative, Topic 44: Integrating Climate Resilience in Electricity System Planning, which articulates a need to: inform resilient decarbonization pathways by better characterizing the climate conditions under which the grid must reliably operate“improve forecasting of electricity supply and demand - including subseasonal, seasonal, midterm, and longer-term time horizons,” and inform approaches to wildfire mitigation and insurance for California’s IOUs.
