Summary
The Library of Congress is conducting an open Request for Information to assess the feasibility of using ultra-high-density optical data storage for long-term preservation of a subset of its digital collections; the notice is informational and is not itself a solicitation. The anticipated proof of concept would write approximately 1 TB of video, audio, image, and text data to durable optical media, validate error detection and preservation methods, and demonstrate complete data recovery and recall. The response deadline is July 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. EDT, and the anticipated period of performance is one year in Washington, DC.
