The awardee will work with local public health agencies (LPHAs) to promote and provide training and technical assistance on evidence-based strategies for promoting Tobacco Free Schools policies, including the implementation of Second Chance, as well as trainings focusing on engaging parents and adults to advocate and support tobacco/vape-free school environments. STEPP sees the implementation of alternatives to suspension as crucial to promoting positive health outcomes for youth as punitive measures have proven to have negative impacts on youth. The program will serve as an important method of identifying and providing awareness about the health risks and dangers of tobacco/vape/nicotine products to youth through a comprehensive approach to Tobacco Free Schools.
