Summary
Conservation and/or restoration of these two oversized wooden desks will consist of tasks including addressing finish issues such as scratches, water stain damage, cracks/wood component separation and related glue failure, replacing missing trim, addressing patina issues on drawer pulls, addressing failing veneer, mitigating the structural instability of these oversized objects related to failed structural components such as legs and joinery. One of the goals of this project is to ensure that, upon its completion, the two desks are stable enough to safely move and/or transport during routine maintenance of glenmont and/or its historic interiors. Please note that nps preservation guidelines advocates for replacing materials in-kind, using in-kind methods. Any work that alters the appearance and/or the original structure of these desks must be preapproved by the nps. See attached file.
