Summary
To conduct analyses on restricted data from the National Survey of Children’s Health administered by the US Census Bureau. This project will result in generating estimates of childhood obesity that will be used to inform programs and for research publications. The cost includes entrance to the FSRDC for up to two researchers and all approval processes required. Reliable county-level childhood estimates of nutrition, physical activity, and obesity prevalence can aid public health officials in tailoring interventions to promote regular physical activity, better nutrition, and healthy weight more effectively and allocating limited resources more strategically. While existing data shows significant state level geographic variation in childhood obesity, nutrition, and physical activity, currently, no comprehensive surveillance system provides direct estimates of any of these for each U.S. county, making it challenging to address this pressing public health issue effectively.
