Summary
Provide cementary restoration: a stone conservationist is needed for the stabilization of grave markers within the cemetery for the preservation of the historical cemetery. It is strongly desired that actual stone conservation be executed only by an experienced conservator with experience in historical cemetery preservation to repair and reset any broken or displaced markers; resetting resetting grave markers when their foundation is unstable or out of plumb. This activity involves lifting the grave marker, leveling the foundation and returning the marker to its original upright position. Any hole left from the removal of the marker will need to be enlarged to hold the base of the stone. Soil at the bottom of the hole should be compacted by hand, not with a power tamper. Crushed stone or pea-sized gravel mixed with sand can be used to line the hole and then hand-tamp around the stone after it is placed in the hole. Markers should not be set in concrete.
