Summary
An emergency procurement is necessary due to damage sustained to the electrical duct bank serving the West Campus Switching Station, leaving the campus electrical distribution system operating solely on its redundant feed. The redundant circuit is currently the only source of electrical service to the West Campus Switching Station. As a result, there is no secondary backup available in the event of an additional failure. Any damage or failure affecting the remaining circuit resulting in a loss of electrical service to all west campus facilities, creating a significant risk to university operations, research, instruction, and life safety systems. To restore system redundancy and mitigate the immediate risk of a widespread electrical outage, the University must procure replacement electrical cable on an emergency basis. This emergency procurement is necessary to protect critical infrastructure, restore the reliability of the campus electrical distribution system, and minimize the risk of a major service interruption.
