Wrightslaw Special Education Law and Advocacy Training - McAllen, TX

This one-day special education law and advocacy program focuses on four key areas: special education law, rights and responsibilities; tests and measurements to assess progress and regression; SMART IEPs (Individualized Education Programs); and an introduction to tactics and strategies for effective advocacy. The program is designed to meet the needs of parents, educators, health care providers, advocates, and attorneys who represent children with disabilities concerning special education. It is not disability-specific, and while there may be a limited focus on unique state-specific cases and regulations, the primary emphasis will be on federal laws, regulations, and cases that impact all stakeholders nationwide. The training will incorporate current developments with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), recent unanimous U.S. Supreme Court rulings (Fry, Endrew F., Perez v. Sturgis Pub. Sch., and A.J.T. v Osseo), and changes within the IDEA 2004 that became effective on July 1, 2005, along with its regulations issued on August 14, 2006.
