Wrightslaw From Emotions to Advocacy Conference

A full-day, in-person training program featuring Pete Wright, Esq., sponsored by the Exceptional Children's Assistance Center (ECAC). Participants will learn how to take an active role in managing a child's special education. The program covers the five key sections of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), how to interpret a child's test scores, and how to develop SMART IEPs. Pete Wright will instruct attendees on preparing for meetings, effective disagreement strategies, and maintaining healthy working relationships with school personnel. Specific topics include IDEA Sections 1400, 1401, 1412, 1414, and 1415, utilizing the Bell Curve, creating a Parent Agenda, documenting information to prevent or resolve disputes, and participating as an equal member of an IEP team. This program is designed to meet the needs of parents, educators, health care providers, advocates, and attorneys representing children with disabilities and is not disability-specific. Registration is free for North Carolina residents and includes lunch, refreshments, a Wrightslaw highlighter pen, and three Wrightslaw books (Special Education Law, 3rd Edition; From Emotions to Advocacy, 2nd Edition; and All About IEPs) in both print and PDF formats.
