About this conference
As Maryland's counties work to meet rising community needs and prepare for long-term growth, the imperative to strengthen infrastructure, deepen partnerships, and support vulnerable residents has never been clearer. Build What's Next will examine the emerging challenges and opportunities shaping local governments and highlight forward-thinking strategies that position county governments -- and their residents -- for lasting success. Conference sessions will explore modern infrastructure investment, state-local collaboration, tech and AI influence on public services, and innovative tools that expand housing options, enhance public infrastructure and energy delivery, effectively fund education priorities, and ensure every community has access to essential resources and services. The Summer Conference is held at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Worcester County. The annual conference draws nearly 2,000 local, state, and federal government official attendees and their families. Approximately 30 continuing education sessions will be offered at the conference, featuring more than 80 speakers from the public and private sectors. The conference also hosts state agency briefings, organization meetings, and regional county meetings as well as Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) committee meetings. Several education sessions are approved for the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance course credit. Featured events include a Tech Expo, Taste of Maryland Reception, Crab Feast, and the Governor's Closing Address.
