The Council of Independent Colleges

The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) is a national association of more than 700 nonprofit independent colleges and universities, state-based councils, and higher-education affiliates that supports college and university leadership and advances institutional excellence. CIC provides conferences, seminars, publications, grant programs, and other services that help institutions improve educational quality, administrative and financial performance, student outcomes, and institutional visibility. The organization has been led by President Marjorie Hass since 2021; CIC merged with the Foundation for Independent Higher Education in 2010 to expand grant support for state consortia and in 2025 highlighted major milestone anniversaries among member institutions.
