About
About National Indian Child Welfare Association
The National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) is a nonprofit, membership organization that protects the safety, health, and cultural identity of American Indian and Alaska Native children and families by upholding culturally based services, community strength, and Tribal sovereignty. Its membership includes tribes, individual (Native and non-Native) professionals, and private organizations across the United States, and it convenes the annual Protecting Our Children conference (a large national Native child advocacy gathering). NICWA also advocates for strengthening ICWA and provides trainings and technical assistance to tribal, local, state, and federal audiences.
