National Black Caucus of State Legislators

The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) 50th Annual Legislative Conference is an annual gathering for state legislators, partners, advocates, and legislative staff to strengthen their collective voice and advance a bold public policy agenda reflecting the needs and aspirations of their communities. Attendees can expect discussions and committee work leading to the ratification of policy resolutions and the curation of model legislation to guide legislative efforts. Focus areas include strengthening economic equity through responsible lending reforms and increased Black homeownership opportunities, advancing public health by tackling hypertension disparities and expanding access to affordable prescription drugs, promoting environmental justice and equitable investment in underserved communities, and demanding humane treatment and addressing the unique needs of Black immigrants and global majority populations. The conference also addresses issues such as fair redistricting, the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce, the future of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), maternal health, end-of-life care, gun violence prevention, housing disparities, the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Black communities, and pollution-free buildings.
