Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is a professional association founded in 1906 that represents public finance officials across the United States and Canada. It has more than 28,000 members (federal, state/provincial, and local finance officials) and provides education, best practices, publications, awards programs, and advocacy to advance excellence in public finance. Recent notable initiatives include participation in the Local Gov 250 initiative, extensive awards programs (e.g., the Certificate of Achievement and Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards), and the upcoming 120th Annual Conference (June 28–July 1, 2026, in Chicago).
