About Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is the U.S. Department of Transportation agency responsible for regulating safety oversight of commercial motor vehicles, with a mission to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. It was established within the Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000, pursuant to the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999 (49 U.S.C. 113).
