Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities

The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) is an international affiliate organization of colleges and universities located in urban and metropolitan areas that advances place-based strategies and university–community engagement. CUMU supports member campuses — presidents, chancellors, administrators, faculty, staff, students, and partners — through conferences, year‑round programming, publications (Metropolitan Universities journal), and peer networks to promote social and economic mobility, regional impact, and community well‑being. Recent activities include the 2025 CUMU Conference in Baltimore (over 470 leaders attended), partnerships to support Inside Higher Education’s US Universities Summit 2025, and named title sponsors for the 2025 conference (Healthcare Anchor Network and Cengage).
