California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is an urban, comprehensive university in the California State University system that delivers undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 36,000 students annually and serves a diverse, largely first-generation student population. The university’s mission emphasizes promoting the welfare and intellectual progress of students and values such as teaching excellence, scholarship, inclusion, and community engagement. Recently (Dec. 9, 2025) CSUN announced a $63 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott—her second major gift to CSUN—bringing her total support to more than $103 million and representing one of the largest philanthropic investments in the university’s history.
