American Public Health Association

The American Public Health Association (APHA) is a Washington, D.C.–based professional membership and advocacy organization whose mission is to improve the health of the public and achieve equity in health status and to build public health capacity and promote effective policy and practice. APHA represents a broad-based community of tens of thousands of public health professionals (students, academics, agency staff and organizational/agency members), publishes the American Journal of Public Health, and convenes a large Annual Meeting and other public-health initiatives. In 2024–2025 the association was publicly involved in a governance controversy involving its International Health Section, a notable recent event affecting the organization.
