Michigan Special Education Legislative Summit (Mi SELS) 2027

The Michigan Special Education Legislative Summit (Mi SELS) is hosted by the MAASE Advocacy Committee. This professional learning event will allow attendees to advocate for students with disabilities by building meaningful relationships with state legislators. The two-day event will provide knowledge and skills to advocate, followed by an opportunity to apply those skills in a safe and supportive environment. The first day will cover MAASE's Legislative Platform and Priorities, an overview of the political landscape, and a panel discussion on current issues. Attendees will practice their skills during an evening reception and legislative office visits. All activities will be team-based to facilitate learning for new attendees. Advocacy is presented as a foundational leadership skill.
