About this conference

This conference aims to build investigators, reduce liability, and protect public trust. A poorly conducted Internal Affairs investigation can lead to significant negative consequences. The Internal Affairs Certification Course provides investigators, supervisors, command staff, and human resources professionals with the practical skills necessary to conduct legally sound, procedurally fair, and defensible administrative investigations. Over five days, participants will learn to manage misconduct complaints from intake through final disposition, applying constitutional protections, due process requirements, labor agreements, evidence management standards, and national best practices. Attendees will learn to conduct professional employee misconduct investigations, apply legal requirements such as Garrity, Weingarten, Loudermill, Brady, and Giglio, interview complainants, witnesses, and subject employees, collect, preserve, and authenticate evidence, investigate use-of-force, harassment, discrimination, and integrity-related complaints, prepare defensible investigative findings and disciplinary recommendations, navigate arbitration, civil liability, and due process challenges, and address emerging issues involving digital evidence, AI, and CJIS compliance. The program combines legal requirements, investigative techniques, and real-world case management into a single certification designed to strengthen accountability, improve investigative quality, and reduce organizational risk. It is designed for both new and experienced professionals overseeing complex misconduct investigations.
