About this conference

This 3-day conference provides essential skills for managing crisis and hostage situations. Day 1, led by Jack Cambria, focuses on police officers in crisis, presenting three actual case studies of law enforcement officers on the brink, including suicidal individuals and those held hostage. Day 2, led by Matthew Garcia, is scenario-driven, providing officers with core negotiation techniques, communication strategies, and practical decision-making in fast-moving incidents. Participants will learn specialized approaches for negotiating with teens and young adults, recognizing behavioral indicators of extremist subjects, and coordinating effectively with Public Information Officers (PIOs) to craft accurate public messaging during major events such as manhunts. This day includes independent and small-team practical exercises, where attendees rotate through roles such as primary negotiator, coach, and scribe, concluding with multiple debriefs and a culminating integrated scenario. Day 3, led by Darryl Rivers, addresses solving challenging points of dialogue, negotiating with individuals who have major illnesses versus personality disorders, dealing with suicidal subjects, and developing the mindset of a self-aware negotiator. The overall training is designed to enhance communication, improve incident outcomes, and strengthen interagency coordination in high-risk situations.
