ELITE Academy for Attorneys and Risk Managers

The National Institute for Jail Operations (NIJO) and the National Corrections and Detention Alliance (NCDA) are proud to announce ELITE Academy for Attorneys and Risk Managers (ARM). This three-day legal-based training is designed to provide attorneys and risk management professionals with invaluable tools to represent their corrections and detention clients and to guide proactive risk reduction strategies. Attendees will learn proactive defense strategies that will not only posture litigation for the best outcome, but will also guide proactive exposure reduction strategies to guard against future litigation. ELITE for ARM is taught by preeminent corrections defense litigators with decades of experience representing city, county, state, federal, and private jails, prisons, and detention centers across the country. Key topics include effective litigation and case handling strategies for defending Section 1983 constitutional violation claims, insight into current emerging legal trends in corrections defense (e.g., use of force, transgender management, First Amendment & RLUIPA religious practice claims, failure to protect & deliberate indifference, qualified immunity defenses), and strategies for addressing government investigations, facility inspections, and activist group agendas. The program also offers tips for addressing liability exposure and posturing operations to reduce future litigation.
