About this conference
The Eighth International Faustmann Symposium provides a unique forum to advance and exchange ideas on the economics of long-term resource management, building on the enduring legacy of Martin Faustmann’s 1849 paper. For 2026, the symposium aims to explore how the Faustmann formula and related frameworks continue to inform decision-making in a world shaped by risk, uncertainty, and change. Topics include extensions, applications, and critiques of the Faustmann formula; forest and natural resource economics under risk and uncertainty; economic and ecological modeling under environmental and policy fluctuations; implications of economic and institutional fluctuations (e.g., markets, policies, governance structures) for forest and resource management; long-term forest management, sustainability, and climate adaptation; decision support systems, optimization models, and integrated approaches linking economics, ecology, and policy; broader topics in forest resource economics, including valuation of ecosystem services, policy analysis, and behavioral or institutional economics; and applications beyond forestry (e.g., agriculture, fisheries, conservation) that relate to land use and long-term resource management. Submissions of extended abstracts and full papers are invited for presentation.
