26th Inter-Tribal Working Group (ITWG) Meeting

The Intertribal Working Group (ITWG) is a voluntary working group of Tribal representatives who exchange views, information, and advice peer-to-peer about how Tribes may best implement VAWA 2022 Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction (STCJ). This includes discussions on how to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, obstruction of justice, and assaults against tribal justice personnel, and addresses the need to recognize victims' rights and safety needs, and safeguard defendants' rights. The 26th ITWG meeting will take place at Pascua Yaqui in Tucson, AZ on June 9-10, 2026, for two full days, focusing on peer technical assistance exchange, drafting stronger Tribal codes, victim-centered protocols, improving public defender systems, analyzing detention and correctional options, designing representative jury pools, and increasing juror compliance. This conference is OVW approved.
