2026 Tri-State Special Education Law Conference

This annual conference brings together over 1,000 parents, advocates, attorneys, special education directors, administrators, and other education leaders to explore the latest developments in special education law and practice. Organized on behalf of the Iowa Department of Education, the Kansas Department of Education, and the Nebraska Department of Education, this event is designed for professionals from across Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa dedicated to supporting children with disabilities and their families. The conference focuses on enhancing special education services and collaborative practices, with sessions geared towards individuals who possess a foundational understanding of special education law, procedures, and best practices. Key topics include updates on IDEA, Section 504, and ADA regulations and case law; parent and student rights, dispute resolution, and mediation strategies; roles and responsibilities of school leaders, special education directors, and attorneys in fostering compliance and collaboration; practical tools for parents and advocates to effectively navigate the IEP process; addressing emerging issues such as mental health supports, virtual services, discipline, LRE considerations, and Artificial Intelligence; and strengthening partnerships between families and schools to reduce conflict and build trust.
