2026 Legislative Conference

The Council of Chief State School Officers' (CCSSO) Legislative Conference focuses on advocacy for strong state leadership in education and highlights states' success in delivering on the promise of an excellent education for all students. CCSSO will bring state chiefs together in conversation with key federal leaders from across the nation's capital to analyze the changing federal policy landscape, hear from federal officials and share promising state work and pressing challenges. At this year's Legislative Conference, education leaders will explore: The role of state leaders in a changing federal landscape; The alignment of federal and state resources to prioritize and maximize student outcomes; The impact of state efforts to increase student growth. Programming highlights will include: A special event, State Leadership for Student Outcomes, to explore how state leaders are developing new approaches that will move the needle on student achievement by using the full breadth of state authority; Expert CCSSO analysis on the federal education policy landscape; Opportunities to engage with members of Congress and the administration; Role-alike sessions for state leaders to network with peers.
