2026 Legal Symposium on Property Assessment

The Illinois Property Assessment Institute (IPAI) is hosting its 2026 Legal Symposium on Property Assessment at Northern Illinois University in Naperville. The symposium aims to provide relevant, engaging, thought-provoking, and challenging content for attendees. Presentations will cover a variety of assessment and legal topics, including trends in commercial valuations, the state of big box stores, appeals before the Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB), the use of AI in assessments or legal practice, highest and best use, valuation of reimagined commercial properties, effective attorney/client communication, understanding and valuating data centers, the role and function of the Board of Review, key assessment-related court decisions, FOIA and OMA, the impact of exemptions on local communities, ethics in the practice of law, valuation of hotels and resort properties, appropriate valuation approaches, capitalization rates, the impact of valuations on taxing districts, understanding an appraisal report, and dealing with contaminated properties.
