About this conference
The 2026 AASHTO Census Transportation Planning Conference, hosted by the AASHTO Census Transportation Solutions (ACTS) program, is held every five years. It provides an opportunity for users of the Census Transportation Planning Package (CTPP) and other Census data to exchange knowledge and share experiences. The conference serves as a forum to share best practices, research, and innovations. Attendees can participate in training sessions, learn about innovative research and applications, and gain a better understanding of federal policy impacts on Census data. This year's conference includes a half-day training introducing core features of CTPP data, as well as an exclusive session for State DOTs that are members of the ACTS Technical Services Program, offering program updates and tips. Key topics include the impact of privacy rules on census and CTPP data, the development of future products using modeled data, the role of CTPP as the "gold standard" for travel data in the era of big data products, interactive demonstrations of application program interfaces (APIs) and other data access tools, and the application of CTPP data for transit and active transportation research. Participation from stakeholders in Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), Regional Development Organizations (RDOs), state DOTs, the federal government, academia, and industry is considered critical to the overall success of the ACTS program.
