About this conference
The Leadership Academy is an intensive learning experience designed to prepare attendees with core leadership skills, effective strategies to handle leadership challenges, and the necessary tools to advance their career as a proficient and influential leader. This program allows future leaders to experience multiple facets of leadership and define their leadership style. The program includes interactive discussions led by facilitator Shawn Devine, exploring core traits of exceptional leaders and practical ways to develop these skills. Participants will take leadership assessments designed to highlight their strengths and preferences, engage in both small- and large-group activities, and connect with peers through valuable networking opportunities. Participants will have access to a private online discussion group, be assigned a mentor (an AALL member) for one year, and receive ongoing leadership development opportunities. The 2026 Leadership Academy will explore key areas of leadership, including strategic thinking, resilience, communication, navigating difficult conversations, employee engagement, and cultivating a futurist mindset. Fellows will also help shape the program by identifying the topics that matter most to them, ensuring the experience is both relevant and impactful.
