Township of Alsace

The Planning Commission held a reorganization meeting where current officers agreed to continue in their positions. The commission also discussed the delay in meeting minutes being available on the township website. To address this, the Secretary will send a brief meeting recap to the Township Manager after each meeting to inform residents of Planning Commission activity.

The Alsace Township Board of Supervisors meeting on August 16, 2023, covered various topics including approval of minutes, payments, and financial reports. Key discussions involved Oley Ambulance's 2022 status report and funding request, an update on storm damage from July 9th, and the approval of the Huck/Wark Subdivision. The meeting also addressed a public sewer EDU adjustment request and public works updates, including road repairs and the sale of a dump truck.

The meeting included opening sealed paving bids and discussing a late bid from AMS. The bids were reviewed, and a motion was made to approve the contract of New Enterprise for blacktop, while tabling the approval of the bid for Martin Paving pending receipt of insurance certificates. A question was raised about road maintenance. Authorization was requested and approved to release funds to Mt. Penn Fire Company for truck equipment. Updates were provided on the salt shed and sewer flush. The meeting was then adjourned.

Public comments also included concerns about traffic violations near a school bus. The board approved agreements with Safety Net Sanctuary for animal control and the Berks County UCC Appeals Board. A significant purchase of a CASE Loader with a mower attachment was approved via lease. An individual was appointed to the MP3 Board. A quote for pump repair was approved, and updates were given on work in the tax collector's office.
