Sonoma County Transit

This comprehensive Strategic Transit Plan, initiated by Sonoma County Transit in partnership with other agencies, is designed to guide transit improvements for a more reliable, accessible, and connected mobility system in Sonoma County over the next five years. The plan focuses on evaluating the existing transit network, engaging the community to understand needs and priorities, assessing current services (fixed-route, paratransit, and emerging mobility), identifying gaps and opportunities to improve service coverage, frequency, accessibility, and regional connectivity. It also includes evaluating innovative mobility solutions and developing an actionable five-year plan with recommended service improvements, infrastructure upgrades, and funding and policy strategies.

This plan establishes goals, objectives, policies, and project priorities for a comprehensive, safe, and convenient bicycle and pedestrian transportation network in Sonoma County. It aims to create a viable alternative to automobile travel, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase outdoor recreational opportunities, and improve public health. Key objectives include designing and maintaining a comprehensive bikeways network, increasing non-motorized trip mode share to 5% overall and 10% for trips under five miles by 2020, encouraging transit-oriented development, promoting non-motorized commute trips, providing incentives for active transportation, reducing accidents, and enhancing recreational opportunities.

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors adopted Sonoma County Transit's Zero-Emission Bus Rollout Plan. The plan outlines the transition to a zero-emission bus fleet by 2035, avoiding early retirement of federally funded vehicles. The Transit Systems Manager is authorized to submit the plan and related documents to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in compliance with the Innovative Clean Transit (ICT) regulations.
