Nunavut Arctic College

The mission of Nunavut Arctic College is to strengthen the people and communities of Nunavut by providing life-long learning opportunities for adult Nunavummiut. It focuses on delivering quality career programs developed with input from partners throughout the Arctic and Canada, and by making the benefits of Inuit traditional knowledge and southern science more accessible.

The 2008-2013 Corporate Plan focuses on strengthening the people and communities of Nunavut by providing lifelong learning opportunities. Key strategic goals include building a culturally responsive college, improving programs and services to communities, achieving academic excellence, and strengthening college systems and operations. The plan emphasizes integrating Inuit languages and culture, expanding community-based programs, maintaining academic standards, and fostering partnerships to support growth and capacity building.

Nunavut Arctic College's teaching and learning principles emphasize inclusivity, respect for Inuit language and culture, and the involvement of Elders. The college prioritizes students' well-being, preparing them for meaningful careers and healthy lives through a supportive network. The Nunavut Arctic College Priorities for 2012-2015 focus on building a culturally responsive college by ensuring Inuit language and culture are foundational to adult learning, strengthening college systems and operations through effective management and partnerships, achieving academic excellence with appropriate standards and recognition of prior learning, and improving programs and services to communities by increasing adult learning opportunities and addressing literacy needs.

The Inuit Employment Plan focuses on increasing Inuit representation within the Nunavut Arctic College. Key areas include addressing historical and current issues related to turnover and retention, specialized expertise, and compliance with priority hiring policies. The plan outlines goals and actions to remove artificial barriers to Inuit employment, enhance professional development, and foster partnerships to support Inuit in achieving their full potential within the college.
