The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), in collaboration with the Governor s Office, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and the Illinois Department of Human Services, presents this NOFO/RFP for the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Grant, a federally funded opportunity authorized by Title IV, Part B of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) (20 U.S.C. 7171-7176). Its purpose is to provide opportunities for communities to establish or expand activities in community learning centers. The program is designed to provide academically focused after-school opportunities, particularly to students who attend high-poverty, low-performing schools, to help them meet state and local performance standards in core academic subjects and to offer families of participating students opportunities for literacy and related educational development.
