Cayman Islands National Energy Policy 2017-2037
The Cayman Islands National Energy Policy (NEP) 2017-2037 aims to enhance sustainable lifestyles through responsible and innovative energy supply and consumption. The plan focuses on four key goals: knowledge and education on energy's environmental impact and sustainable solutions; establishing the Cayman Islands as a leader in sustainable energy for small island states; ensuring a modern, reliable, and affordable energy infrastructure; and fostering socioeconomic and environmental sustainability through sustainable energy development. Key strategies include promoting renewable energy (targeting 70% renewable electricity generation by 2037), energy efficiency, and conservation measures. The NEP also addresses fuel security, regulatory frameworks, and public education to achieve its goals, while acknowledging the need for a balanced approach that considers economic competitiveness and consumer interests. The plan includes specific strategies for the electricity, fuels, transportation, land use and buildings, water and wastewater, public education and awareness, and climate change and environment sectors. The policy will be reviewed every five years to adapt to technological advancements and changing circumstances.
