Halifax County Board Of Supervisors Public Safety Committee Committee Meeting
The committee meeting focused on addressing persistent, county-wide communication failures within the existing public safety radio system. Discussions centered on the operational risks these failures pose to law enforcement, fire, EMS, and dispatch personnel, as documented in numerous reports. The committee evaluated the transition from the current system to a P25 public-safety radio system, weighing coverage objectives against costs and considering procurement strategies, specifically the potential for sole-source procurement with Motorola to expedite implementation. The committee ultimately moved to authorize the County Administrator to proceed with this sole-source procurement process, with the recommendation to be forwarded to the full Board for further consideration.
