Financial actions included budget transfers for engineering and postage, water leak and pool credits, and authorization for fireworks display funding. The board also addressed infrastructure, specifically water valve supplier awards, storm sewer replacement projects on Maynard and Chestnut/Oak streets, and recruitment for the highway department. A proposal to hire a new town manager was tabled, as was a proposed social media policy. The board moved to request the DEC reject a water withdrawal permit application and authorized various educational travel and hiring initiatives.
The board meeting included several presentations and project updates. A representative for a local youth flag football and cheerleading program provided an overview of their growth and community partnerships. Another individual proposed the display of Pride Month ribbons or flags downtown throughout June. A representative from Axon presented a proposal to consolidate and modernize law enforcement technology contracts, including AI-based report writing tools. Finally, the Executive Director of the Seneca Falls Museum and Tourism Center provided updates on building renovations, the reopening of the facility, upcoming speaker series, and plans for the summer concert series in the local park.
The board discussed financial reports, including the approval of a stop payment and reissue for vendor physicals. Old business addressed lawn maintenance quotes, property repairs at the Lake Station, scheduled maintenance for the boat house, and the cancellation of pest control services. New business included a discussion on purchasing a chief vehicle, procuring secure .gov email accounts for board members, transitioning to QuickBooks Online, and granting permission for a youth softball car wash fundraiser. The board also approved cyber security software, discussed the fire chief's report regarding approved drivers and vehicle repairs, and held an executive session for a new member application.
The board reviewed financial reports, including checking and money market account balances, and authorized payments for warranted items. Purchase requisitions were approved for office supplies, replacement tires for an engine, and labor law posters. Old business included updates on ongoing roof repairs and maintenance for floor cleaning equipment. New business focused on the 2023 audit engagement, discussion regarding the potential sale of surplus property and the initiation of a pole barn project, the surplus of a hovercraft for auction, and valuation requests for equipment. The Chief's report addressed concerns regarding recent OSHA training sessions and the necessity for formal communication to the membership regarding instructor unprofessionalism.
The board accepted the Treasurer's report and approved the resignation of a personnel member. Discussions were held regarding lawn maintenance, the potential surplus of equipment, and the replacement of exterior station lights. A proposal to grant a salary increase to employees was motioned but failed. The board approved the acquisition and insurance of a police department boat, and discussed a policy regarding the installation of gun lockers in fire engines for members with valid concealed carry permits.
