Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Solid Waste Management Plan 2026-2036
The Solid Waste Management Plan for the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen provides a 10-year framework to reduce environmental impacts, improve service efficiency, and strengthen financial sustainability of solid waste services. Key objectives include supporting local waste reduction, reuse, and repair initiatives; increasing diversion of organics, recyclable materials, and construction and demolition waste to achieve a target of 450 kg/capita per year by 2036; reducing improper disposal practices; optimizing disposal efficiency and financial sustainability; and fostering collaboration with community partners. The plan outlines 47 initiatives across five strategic groupings: reduction, reuse, and repair; organics, recycling, and C&D diversion; waste management practice improvement; disposal system efficiency and financial resilience; and planned infrastructure and program supports.
