The committee discussed the implementation of peer-led vaping prevention programs for the secondary level and confirmed that the current sex education program remains appropriate. The meeting featured a presentation from the Children's Advocacy Center regarding the Play It Safe curriculum, which is an evidence-based program focused on preventing child abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, and other related safety concerns for students from elementary through high school. The discussion highlighted the importance of educating children to recognize abusive behaviors, the three-part safety rule (say no, walk away, and tell an adult), and the need for ongoing communication with caregivers. Additionally, the committee discussed the integration of this curriculum across different grade levels, the necessity of parental consent, and the importance of addressing current digital safety risks like cyberbullying and dangerous applications.

The Commission and Board discussed and acted upon several land use and development requests, including site plans for building lofts, restaurant facilities, and additions; final plats for residential and commercial developments; and variance requests concerning setbacks at multiple locations. Additionally, they reviewed zone changes from single-family residential to townhome residential and other residential districts. Other business included the approval of an amendment to the Blalock Commercial Overlay District regulations.

The commission reviewed several site plans and plats, including developments on East Peyton Street, Old Dorchester Road, and South Rusk Street. Multiple agenda items for Texoma Parkway and East Shepherd Road were tabled at the request of the representatives. The commission approved a zone change for a property on East Brockett Street, granted variances and site plan approval for a project on Texoma Parkway, and approved a temporary use permit for a concrete batch plant on North Highway 75. Additionally, the commission approved an ordinance amending the City of Sherman Code of Ordinances regarding zoning district requirements and sign regulations.
