President King and the President’s Cabinet Conversation
The meeting featured updates from cabinet members on several key institutional efforts. The Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion provided updates on strategic DEI efforts, including listening sessions, campus climate survey analysis, and specific initiatives such as a law enforcement panel discussion and a microaggressions workshop, both aimed at promoting self-reflection and empathy among students and staff. The Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs highlighted the strength of existing majors (Education, Science, Psychology, Business) and the successful pivot to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This office is also launching new programs like Nursing (now the largest campus program), Kinesiology, and Exercise Science, supported by Lilly Endowment funding. Furthermore, the first PhD program, Global Leadership, is being established. Retention initiatives, funded in part by a collaborative grant spearheaded by the University of Indianapolis, aim to develop predictive algorithms to support student success and strengthen the Student Success Center. Student Life is preparing for the addition of a second residence hall and a new dining experience while successfully managing campus engagement during the pandemic, including managing quarantine and mental health resources. Advancement Operations is leading the strategic plan, ensuring it remains a living document rather than a static report.
