Tecca Commonwealth Virtual School Board Financial Subcommittee Special Meeting
The meeting focused on the 1-1 student device initiative, hiring additional staff, creating a new department, establishing a new enrollment policy, and salary adjustments. Discussions included moving speech and language services in-house by hiring two speech-language pathologists to replace contracted services, which is expected to be more cost-effective. The committee reviewed the FY26 and FY27 budgets, specifically addressing the need for four new technology positions (shipping and receiving agents and help desk personnel), salary increases due to expanded responsibilities for existing roles, and the utilization of a budget surplus and fund balance to cover one-time fixed asset purchases.
The committee discussed the upcoming school year meeting schedule and reviewed the financial impact of the Pearson Summary of Agreement, noting an increase in cost per student. They also evaluated the potential advantages of bringing student device technology in-house for FY27, specifically regarding cost savings and device quality, and explored alternative educational platforms. The committee also considered the necessity of a future special meeting to review revenue and expenses.
