Select Board Special Meeting
The Select Board held a community forum to discuss the future of the Iron Rail property. The discussion centered on a feasibility study regarding the property, which identified that the existing Iron Rail building requires significant repairs to meet building codes, posing a financial challenge for the town. The proposal involves maintaining town ownership of the site while engaging a developer through a long-term ground lease, potentially allowing for continued use by existing businesses, such as the gymnastics academy, while also exploring opportunities for retail, office space, and middle-income housing. The forum also addressed the importance of aligning development with the town's master plan, which emphasizes economic growth, housing diversity, recreation, and sustainability, while also managing the town's role and liability as a landlord.
