Calvin College Vision
This document, an inaugural address, outlines a strategic vision for Calvin College, emphasizing the theme of 'Keeping Faith: Embracing the Tensions in Christian Higher Education.' It challenges the institution to cultivate intellectual, emotional, and spiritual courage to navigate a rapidly changing world while preserving its distinctive history. The vision identifies eight critical tensions to be embraced, including the balance between piety and intellect, teaching and scholarship, individual and community needs, technology-driven society and eternal truths, external recognition and internal motivation, wealth and its obligations, distinctive Christian tradition and academic freedom, and cultural identity and diversity. The overarching goal is to achieve academic excellence rooted in its Reformed Christian identity, fostering a new era of flourishing through creative engagement with these inherent tensions.
