Powhatan County Public Schools Monthly Board Meeting
The meeting commenced with the formal exit from a closed session, followed by the approval of the evening's agenda and the personnel docket. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to recognizing grant awardees from the Powatan Education Foundation (PEF), including recipients for projects involving interactive displays, immersive digital learning, a traveling planetarium, thermal energy transfer, STEM prototypes, and a Renaissance Festival. The board also recognized winners of the VSBA Academy Credit Awards for school board members and the Superintendent, based on accumulated training credits. Furthermore, the "Helping Hands Award" was presented to several staff members for their inspiring work, including joint recipients from Pocahontas Elementary, a staff member from Powatan Elementary, and an absent recipient from Flat Rock Elementary. Finally, the school liaison provided updates on recent events, including senior parking spot painting and Halloween trunk-or-treat activities at the high school, fall festivals and safety patrol recognition at elementary schools, and shared feedback from middle school students regarding desired changes, such as increasing pep rallies and utilizing more outdoor/alternative learning spaces.
