Rhode Island School of Design Strategic Plan 2020-2027
The Rhode Island School of Design's (RISD) 2020-2027 strategic plan, "Next: RISD 2020-2027," focuses on three strategic areas: Just Societies, Sustainability, and New Ways of Making and Knowing. The plan aims to contribute to just societies by increasing access to RISD, empowering students and alumni, supporting faculty and staff development, pioneering research on social equity, and further diversifying the community. Sustainability initiatives include reducing reliance on fossil fuels, infusing sustainability into the curriculum, leading in addressing climate change through art and design, and creating structures to advance inquiry into art, design, and living systems. "New Ways of Making and Knowing" focuses on introducing innovative curricula and pedagogy, redefining graduate education, increasing institutional research capacity, enhancing academic facilities, establishing labs for inquiry and exchange, creating more flexibility for faculty inquiry, and supporting student contributions to research agendas. The plan builds upon the successes of the previous strategic plan, "Critical Making | Making Critical," and aims to make RISD's education more accessible, relevant, and powerful by 2027.
