The City Commission meeting included the swearing-in of new Commissioners, followed by the election of the Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem. Key agenda items involved a public hearing and second reading of Ordinance 2022-06 concerning the Capital Improvement Element Update, and the first reading of Ordinance 2022-08 regarding the suspension and waiver of Water and Wastewater Impact Fees. Following a recess to convene the General Pension Board meeting, where quarterly financial reports and the detailed expense report for Fiscal Year 2021-2022 were approved, the Commission reconvened. Upon reconvening, the Commission approved the actions of the General Pension Board. Other major items included announcing the Power Cost Adjustment, approving an event application for a New Year's Eve Block Party, approving various Board Appointments, and approving Resolutions 2022-39, 2022-40, and 2022-41 concerning airport improvements, temporary housing regulations related to Hurricane Ian, and a Law Enforcement Trust Fund request for an Automated License Plate Reader, respectively. The Commission also approved the vacation of an alley in the "Smith & Alexander Addition" and the renewal of the City Manager's employment contract.

The meeting included discussions and decisions on several key issues. The Commission addressed the extension of the suspension and waiver of water and wastewater impact fees. A recommendation for bulk power supply was presented, leading to a decision to authorize contract negotiations with FPL. The commission also considered a benefits program, directing staff to work with Avail Benefits to develop a contract. Resolutions were approved for water system main line and wastewater biosolids treatment bids. Additionally, the commission discussed and approved a special event application for Hometown Happy Hour, a bad debt write-off, and a resolution supporting the 2023 FLC Legislative Platform. Updates were provided on city projects and flood damage repairs.

The meeting included discussions and a vote regarding a Certificate of Appropriateness for a property located at 208 W Orange Street. Hardee County Friends of the Library are seeking approval for demolition to convert the space into a commercial building with a bookstore and coffee shop. The board voted to approve the certificate as presented.

The Wauchula Historic Preservation Board convened to discuss several Certificates of Appropriateness. The board reviewed an application for 118 W Main St regarding paint colors, but deferred approval pending clarification on awning plans. Another application for 226 W Main St involved paint and awnings, with the applicant withdrawing the paint portion for further research, while the awnings were approved. The approval of minutes from the June 24, 2024 meeting was postponed.

The meeting included discussion and action on a Certificate of Appropriateness for 216 W Main Street, concerning rebranding efforts including new signage, awnings, and paint colors. The board approved the original awning and paint request but declined the original signage request, approving a swing style sign instead.
