The board conducted a public hearing regarding the proposed FY27 budget, which reflects a 6.12% increase primarily driven by rising costs in health care, special education, professional development, and salaries. The presentation detailed significant budget reductions made since February to address financial constraints, including the elimination of several staffing positions and facility upgrade projects. Key topics discussed included town assessments, the impact of transportation cost reductions, potential Proposition 2 1/2 override options, and the necessity of organizational changes, such as transitioning to an assistant principal model, to balance the budget while maintaining programmatic service levels.
