Outdoor Recreation Mitigation Board Meeting
The board discussed the initial review of fifteen grant applications concerning visitor-related emergency costs, visitor safety, and search and rescue (SAR) and EMS services, which totaled $26.8 million in requests. Key topics included the inconsistency in how counties submitted their applications, ranging from generalized averages to detailed incident-by-incident breakdowns. Board members clarified the definition of ongoing costs within the grant context, determining that many applications erroneously included future projections. The discussion focused on establishing templates for future cycles to ensure better data comparability and determining a scoring strategy for the current applications that balances the varying levels of detail with the actual project needs.
